Those pre-Tour de France amuse bouches, the Criterium Du Dauphine and the Tour de Suisse, were, in one way or another dominated by Team Ineos, but absolutely not in the way they would have hoped.

Chris Froome’s hopes of a 5th Grand Boucle win evaporated following an horrific crash ahead of the Dauphine’s Stage 4 time trial, with, by all accounts, the 34-year old lucky to escape with his life.

A week later, defending Tour champion Geraint Thomas crashed out of the Tour de Suisse, and while his injuries were only superficial and the Welshman has been cleared for July, the chance to properly test his legs in Switzerland will certainly be unwelcome.

On this week’s show we look back to an extraordinary couple of weeks and what those events mean for the calendar’s biggest event.
