Theo de Rooij won 14 races in a professional career that spanned the decade from 1980 to 1990. Having ridden with the Panasonic team between 1984-1990, he then became a DS on the team for 4 seasons before joining Rabobank in 1996. He resigned from the Dutch team at the end of 2007.

Ian Hallam is an Olympic medal winner from a time when British cyclists generally didn’t win Olympic medals. He first represented Great Britain at the Mexico games in 1968 and went on to win a bronze medal in Munich in 1972 and again in 1976 in Montreal in the Team Pursuit. He also won 3 Commonwealth titles in the Individual Pursuit and 4km Team Pursuit and has held no fewer than 25 National track titles between 1969 and 1981.

Jacques Anquetil was the Grand Tour master of the late 1950s and first half of the ‘60s, and Rik Van Looy was the classics king. He was a fierce competitor, high-handed in his dominance, with 492 victories in a professional career lasting nearly 20 years. And then there were three. We bid a sad-but-fond farewell to Patrick, the wise man of Methlehem. It's okay, he's not dead or anything and is quite simply the busiest man in the world!
