"Chico's Promise" is a true story of heroism and abandonment about a war dog named Chico who walked point in Vietnam in 1969 with his handler Mike Monahan. Chico was a Superhero who saved Mike's life and the lives of many others as they searched the jungles of Vietnam for the enemy. The book is written in Chico's voice and describes his life from birth to his death at age 5. This is a tragic love story that has continued for fifty years after Chico's death, resulting in Mike's pledge to save 50,000 dogs in Chico's memory through a 501(c)(3), Chico’s Promise.
