This book is what I call “authentic spoken word” of modern times. When reading this book, you find that the accent changes from time to time. However, Jamaican patois is so popular among most cultures you will no doubt grasp and understand the meaning.
The content of this book is for anyone who can identify and understand the message. I’m a firm believer in trying to get my own house in order before telling others how to live. So, from a cultural and spiritual aspect, most of the content is aimed at the “black community” in the nicest way possible. There are some biblical inspired poems in the book, put as real as possible in normal everyday language. Humour, I find, is a natural tool I used to engage my audience. Some of the poems were written when things were happening in the world and may not be grasped by some in the same way it will by others.
What is for sure you will be inspired, convicted and challenged by the content.
“Comfort zone” was one of the first poems I did at the Bethel Convention Centre and the response was so overwhelming, I knew poetry was something I could use as a vehicle to send a message. There is something in this book for most people to identify with, as it touches different topics that will bring about awareness, as well as challenging your thought pattern.
Once you’ve read this book, you will want to recite some poems at certain events.
